July 2016

John Alcock led this session with the theme ‘Return Journey’. He began by asking us to think about and reflect on the events of a day in the previous week. We were then asked to think of places we have returned to, physically or emotionally or imaginatively; and share our thoughts in groups of three.

John used a number of well-chosen poems to inspire us, beginning with Morning Birds by Tomas Transtromer. This was followed by I Years Had Been From Home by Emily Dickinson, Home Is So Sad by Philip Larkin, Dawn Revisited by Rita Dove, Going Home by Wislawa Szymborska, A Good Day by Ruth Bidgood, and On Home Beaches by Les Murray.

By the end of the writing session there were some interesting responses which it’s hoped will become poems. Watch this space!
