A Peal of Bells – Rosemary Orr

Bells peal breaking the silence

stuttering joyfully.

Long and short

sounds of hope

deep then high.

Does Neptune’s bell still toll

for the Titanic

or for Aberfan’s children

the joys and sorrows

of yesteryear.

Here candles flicker

and lilies have lain

as we remembered

King John eight hundred

years on, still bells toll..

for another and even more

to come from today’s world,

while stained glass windows

and sunlight spread colours

of warmth and beauty

into our midst.
